Film Poster Analysis
The first poster I have chosen to analyse is The Proposal, with Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds. The white background keeps distractions on the poster to a minimum and also makes it look very professional and clean. Having the colour scheme as black, white and red conforms to the usual romance movie posters. Their reflections make the poster look more real, the posture of Sandra Bullock shows that she is the main protagonist in the film and also that she wears the trousers in the relationship as she is the one pinning Ryan Reynolds against a wall. Having Sandra Bullock holding the wedding ring hints as to what could happen later on in the film and also goes against typical gender stereotypes. Having the stars names in Bold and also in red makes them stand out against the plain background which allows the audience to easily identify the cast. The serif font of the title adds a sense of formality which also ties in with their clothing. 'Here comes the bribe' play on words used from typical saying 'here comes the bride' foreshadowing later events. The billing block isn't central on the page which is different to other poster but works well with this one.
The second film I chose to analyse is Enders Game, the bright orange and blue flares are often associated sci-fi movies. The huge spaceship in the background is also a giveaway as to what genre the film falls into. The character is the centre image in this poster, showing that he will be the main character in the film, also their stance is also a confident one making them appear to be strong and powerful. The other characters in the film are displayed below the films title which could attract a larger audience, as their favourite actor could be appearing in the film. The way in which the tagline 'this is not a game' is presented gives a sense of urgency to the film. Then the credits and release date can be seen at the bottom of the poster.
The last poster I chose to analyse is Inception, the layout and design captures sci- fi, action thriller due to its colours and the way everything is layed out. The poster over all garbs your attention, its mysterious and enticing. The thriller genre is also recognisable by the six people at the forefront of the poster, they're looking off into all different directions showing that a lot is going on. Apart from the name of the film there isn't that much text on the poster, the main actors name 'Leonardo Dicaprio' is the second focus text, by using his name in bold on the poster will attract a lot of attention especially from his fanbase, having him the main character in the film attracts a larger audience. There is also a strap line 'your mind is the scene of the crime' which doesn't give much away about the film, but also draws the viewer in by directly addressing them with the word 'your'. The red bold lettering of the title film connotes blood and death again fitting in with the thriller part of the film. The position of the bright light in the lower centre immediately draws your attention to the abandon roads and how it looks like something out of another world. Also, having 'from the director of the dark knight' displayed underneath the title sets the high quality of the film because the dark knight was a very successful film.
